I’m embarrassed this slipped by my radar, but I just wanted to acknowledge the passing of Dick Ayers this past Sunday at the age of 90.
He was a legendary artist. Part of Jack Kirby’s duo of fantastic inkers, the other being Joe Sinnott, and a terrific penciler in his own right. He drew the WWII-centered Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos for over 10 years. One of Marvel’s key artists, especially during the Silver Age. He was born here in my home state of Massachusetts and he joins the growing list of legendary comic book artists that are no longer with us.
Thank you, Dick Ayers, for your outstanding work in this medium I love. You will be missed.
Also, read this terrific obituary on the Dick Ayers Blog. Everything about the man is all there.
